Thailand is a country of such contrasts. In particular, I noticed the huge disparity between the glorious, golden temples scattered everywhere, and the impoverished life of most of the people. In Chiang Rai, I hired a tour guide to drive me around the area, and his impeccable English allowed us to discuss many things, including the economic differences between our too countries. We figured out the money required to buy my fancy ice cream (about a dollar) could feed his family for two weeks — an astounding realization! Anyhow, he insisted on taking me to the Wat Rong Suea Ten (Blue Temple) as dusk set in one night, and I was so glad! Isn't it gorgeous?
